With so many sunscreen options available, it's essential to choose a product that is safe and effective. In this blog post, we'll explore the importance of sunscreen for kids and provide a guide to selecting safe sunscreens that offer optimal protection without compromising their health.
Why Sunscreen Matters: The sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage the skin and increase the risk of sunburns, premature aging, and even skin cancer later in life. Children, in particular, have sensitive skin that is more susceptible to sunburns and long-term damage. Applying sunscreen is crucial for safeguarding their skin during outdoor activities, whether it's a day at the beach, a picnic in the park, or playing sports.
Choosing Safe Sunscreens: When it comes to selecting a sunscreen for your child, keep the following factors in mind:
Broad-Spectrum Protection
SPF Rating.
Physical vs. Chemical Sunscreens
Skin Sensitivity
Water-Resistant Formulas
Check Expiration Dates
My Favorite Sunscreens for Kids
Protecting your child's skin from the sun is essential for their long-term health and well-being. By choosing safe sunscreens that offer broad-spectrum protection, have an appropriate SPF rating, and consider your child's skin sensitivity, you can ensure they enjoy outdoor activities while minimizing the risks of sun damage. Remember to apply sunscreen generously and reapply regularly, and combine it with other sun protection measures like seeking shade and wearing protective clothing. Together, we can keep our little ones safe under the sun.

]]>Let's face it, no one enjoys when their kids are sick. Between the pain, boogers, and more that you can't cure for your kid, you're likely now having to make a major shift to your day to help nurse your little rad things back to radtacular shape.
If you're anything like me, sick days are hard.
]]>If you're anything like me, sick days are hard.
As a creature built on habits, when my day doesn't go 100% to the plan in my head when I wake up, well, then the day is tough. Call it what you want, but I call it stressful. So when I wake up to a coughing little, the alarm tends to go off in my head blaring, "ALERT, ALERT."
This Winter has been particularly rough in our house when it comes to colds. It seems that the Fero family, well, we have had just about everything under the sun since 2022 began. For our house, that means the kids get to stay home with mommy - which can be quite a challenge given a full-time job and a blooming business.
Taking care of the kids on an average day is hard work, let alone when they are under the weather!
If you've danced this dance before, you know how hard it is. One moment you're thinking you are going to have an insanely productive day and the next minute you're processing the fact that you have to continue your daily grind with a little dude or dudette with you!
It's not easy balancing the kids and work throughout the course of the day; however, it can be done. Today I wanted to share some of my tips and tricks for really owning your day, despite your children being under the weather.
Nap times are key.
Whoever said sleep when the baby sleeps really probably didn't accomplish much. That is not to say you can't enjoy a solid sleep session here and there, but to really maximize ones day, you need to own those times when your littles are napping. When my kids are sick, they generally sleep more. I try my best to be 100% present with them when they are sick and awake, and the minute their eyes shut I am on my grind powering away at tasks that need to get done.
Own the multi-task.
As Mama's (or dads) I think the power of the multitasking session during the day is one of the most key ways to be effective. I once read a book that said no one is actually good at multitasking, and that as women we are delusional for thinking we do many things well.
Well, writer of that book, I am living proof that multitasking can work. David would even attest to the power of women multitasking.
I think the biggest takeaway here is multitask smarter, not harder. Don't multitask on several projects that require brain power at once, but pair what is easy with what is taxing on your brain.
For example, I always try to strategically multitask in relation to time. So if I can do laundry while I bang out a project or load the dishwasher and be on a meeting, I do it. Do your best to pair the monotonous with the taxing, because odds are you will be able to handle the taxing job well while doing something that is (for the most part) mindless.
Do what you need to.
As parents we can be our worst critic. When are kids are healthy they only get one episode of Blippi or one packet of fruit snacks. I am a believer that when my littles are sick it's OK to bend the rules some. Generally, Paxton gets more television time then he usually does in an entire week! I also am the worst at giving him treats if he wants one, so long as he doesn't have a stomach ache.
My point is, if your little one is sick, don't feel bad about doing what you need to do to help them feel better and occupy them so you can keep your sanity.
Snuggle up.
One of my favorite things to do with the boys when they are sick is to snuggle. While I always snuggle my dudes, it goes to an entirely different level when the kids are sick. We usually post up in our California King with their favorite show on, and I bring my laptop into bed and snuggle as closely as I can to them.
It's amazing how fulfilling it is when your kids want only to be with you when they're sick, as weird as that sounds!
I always do my best to be as productive as I can with my boys when they are sick, but it is always tough! Kids are the best thing in the world, and it is so awful to see them not feel well. While each parent's work situation is different, I always think it is so important to remember that as long as you give your life 100% than you are doing the best you can.
I want my children to look back on their childhood and when they were sick and think that their mother did an amazing job and nursing them back to help, as well as kicking total (you know) in the workplace at the same time.
I hope you've had a healthier Winter than we have!
Stay Swell, Rad Ones.
Mads
Sidebar: Depending on the level of sickness, please note that taking off work when your kid is 100% acceptable. I am fortunate to have flexible work that understands kids, so I typically can still work and manage the boys too.
]]>Today on the blog I wanted to share more about our mission and why I personally design the graphic tees that we carry! So let's dive in.
Our mission at the Little Rad Things is to craft rad and unique apparel that inspires kids to be their best. We carefully select products that are made for not only style, but also for comfort and durability, so that items last and your kids love wearing them. We curate the designs to speak to breaking away from the ordinary and really encourage kids to be extraordinary!
When we (David and I) started this brand, we really wanted it to be about more than just unique clothes. Both David and I would agree that we have our own unique sense of style. I rarely like to wear things that other people are wearing and tend to mash/layer clothes in unique ways.
So how did we come up with our mission?
Well after a weekend of discussions together, we charted out what we felt like our morals and beliefs that we had as a family for our kids - things that we are passionate about in relation to how our kids would grow up. Poof - that's how it began.
We decided we are passionate about making them good human beings. We want them to be equal parts smart, kind, funny, and confident. We want our children to be a better generation than the previous - to take care and care for everyone.
After we had the discussions we realized that we wanted to build a brand that stood for empowering the next generation and families to be better and do better for the world we live in, and so, with that, our mission was formed!
Once we knew our mission, the fun work started - designing garments. That is when I went to work with a few designers to bring my visions for shirts alive. I wanted each piece in our initial launch inventory to relate back to that message, the message of being more than what society expects of you and being an extraordinary person.
As I worked through designs I thought of things that are equal parts cool, unique, and rad, mixed with our mission. So throughout our launch collection you see styles like a VW Bus paired with a racetrack, because it's bold and highly unlikely that a VW Bus would ever actually be in a race. (VW Bus's generally can't go much faster than 70 MPH depending on the model).
You also see styles like the Bronco that are simple and yet so unique you know its from our brand by the classic LRT labeled on it.
Overall, my favorite design from our launch collection was actually our Rockstar Tee, because it was the perfect representation to me of what I so desperately want kids to be - confident.
In a world where suicide rates among children are rising, I truly believe that it is so important that we focus on empowering and teaching our children how to be confident. Not enough are we reinforcing to our kids that they are unique and special in their own right, that they shouldn't doubt themselves!
I really feel in my heart that we are all rockstars, it's just a matter of us believing it and not listening to outside perceptions of what other individuals who are fighting their own battle have told us.
This brand means so much to me, you mean so much to me.
Thank you for being here and playing a part in getting our mission out into the world.
Stay Swell,
Mads

Have you started reading to your Little Rad Thing(s) yet?!
Reading is one of my favorite things to do with my LRTs, Paxton and Jaxon. It has been reported that reading books aloud to children stimulates their imagination and expands their understanding of the world.
Today I wanted to highlight some of my favorite books to read littles that are in the age range of newborn to a year old, as that is such a pivotal time in a little ones development!
Four books I enjoyed reading to my Little Rad Things:
One thing I have strategically done with my little ones too, is read out-loud whatever I am reading (age appropriate) to them so they are still hearing a story, even if it is an adult book.

]]>Have you ever felt like you’re meant for more or that you weren’t living up to your fullest potential? That was me, until I finally broke through my glass ceiling in the first months of 2021.
It all really started back in 2019, when I was pregnant with my son Paxton and wanted to have the most unique clothing for him. Throughout my pregnancy and the year following Paxton’s birth I really struggled to find clothing that was different from the status quo. I would go on hunts between the internet, big-chain stores, boutiques - you name it, and would never find just the right thing to set him apart from the crowd.
As someone who prides herself on individuality and honest expression, it drove me absolutely bananas trying to find clothing that, I felt, matched my style, my husband's style, and our adorable little boy’s style.
Six months following Paxton’s birth, well, the world essentially stopped turning. We were all thrust into the 2020 worldwide pandemic that required us to stay home for months on end. At the time, I was a Franchise Business Coach for a fitness franchise helping unwavering Franchisees (people who invested in the fitness brand to open their own location|gym) try to keep their businesses not only open, but profitable.
Despite the grind of working from home, I found time to explore and learn to sew. I started making bummies, hoodies, t-shirts, and overalls for Paxton out of different fabrics that I found online. My passion for fashion grew even more over the months of the pandemic, when I would spend my days coaching and my evenings winding down by sewing something 100% original for Pax.
That is really where my first flame for starting my own brand came from.
I have always wanted to do something bigger than myself, to impact others, and make a difference, but I never knew what that may be until I started seeing reactions from my friends to the clothing I was making.
That Spring, that turned into Summer, and then Fall, I realized that I didn’t have the capacity to make the clothing I wanted to, at the quality I wanted to, at a mass scale. I wanted to impact other parents like my husband and I, who wanted clothing for their children to be unique, quality-made, and who supported small business owners in the USA - just like the ones I worked with everyday for my full time job.
In the Fall of 2020, I started thinking about the what-ifs of starting my own clothing brand, with items and styles that you can’t find anywhere else.
I started to daydream, but also housed this immense fear of taking the risk on it, because I had worked with small business owners during a pandemic and saw the hardships they were going through. I fought for them, I laughed with them, and I cried with them - I knew owning your own business was a grind.
That is when my husband, David, told me to do it. He told me to stop being scared, to do more, and to make an impact in other people’s lives by bringing them something that can’t be bought at a large chain store. I am so fortunate to have a spouse who pushes me to be the best version of myself every single day, even if I balance that with picking up his half-consumed water bottles every day.
The more that I thought about how David was trying to push me to be more, the more I understood what the brand would be about.
In the first months of 2021 I had a dream, that I would start a brand called Little Rad Things and it would focus on the pillars of life that David and I believe in with all of our hearts.
The next several weeks, after that dream, I started to plan what the mission of Little Rad Things would be, and I decided the following:
At Little Rad Things we Live Limitlessly. We believe in not putting yourself in a box because, as people, we can do absolutely anything. We control our external output, our circumstances, and we should teach our children that they can do absolutely anything with the proper mindset. For example, if Paxton tells me he is going to be an astronaut - you’d better bet I am going to tell him, “Hell yeah you are, little man!”
At Little Rad Things we encourage you to Be Bold. We believe life is too short to not say what you mean and mean what you say. Be outspoken, be extravagant, and show off your personality. There is no one else in the world like you, so be bold and own it.
At Little Rad Things we Do Little Rad Things. We believe that everyday in life is a day to win, because if you are not putting in the work to win everyday, then what are you doing? There is this amazing quote I read that says “Winners focus on winning. Losers focus on winners.” Read that a few times, and it will really make you think!
In the Spring of 2021, after dreaming the perfecting name and constructing the ideal pillars of what drove my passion, Little Rad Things was officially born. With David and Pax in my corner, I decided to do more with my life and build something that I aspire to mean as much to others as it does to my family.
Little Rad Things was born from a culmination of struggling to find cool clothes for Pax, paired with a passion for believing today’s children should be taught that the world is limitless, that they can be bold and be expressive, and be a rad human all at the same time.
So, our family brings to you, Little Rad Things, a clothing brand for those who want more from their day-to-day than the status-quo. We know that we can truly do anything that we set our minds to, so why not have gear that reflects that mentality to encourage us to be the best version of ourselves that we can be?
I can’t wait to be rad alongside you,
Mads
